MEGHALAYA - Cherrapunji falls

Heaven on Earth.

Location - 60 kilometers away from Shillong. This place is situated in E. Khasi Hills (Shillong), Meghalaya.

It is a town in the Indian state of Meghalaya and means “the abode of clouds”. It is officially named the wettest place on Earth, because all the possible rains in the world fall here. People here can even pull your leg and tell you that rainfall is not measured in inches but in feet.

Cherrapunji is one of the highest rain receiving city in the world. The city receives rain through out the year and hence celebrates only one season - the monsoons.

The falls is located in the hills of Goa off a bumpy highway NH-4A, about 45 Kms from Madgao. The destruction of the road and red mud colors of the tarmac is a result of Iron Ore mining in the area and spill over from mining trucks that speed along this highway.
